TWANAS creative, Maya Mendoza, gathered a collection of poetry from incarcerated people at Soledad Prison after taking part in a weekly program for UCSC students called “Exercises in Empathy: Transformative Justice.” Exploring hardships of being incarcerated these poets in the zine reflect on their oppression, state repression, daily injustices and what abolition truly means.
